100 TONN MONTAGE installed a 95.3 t boiler drum unit at an elevation of 36 m. The equipment was lifted inside the shop, within a narrow opening. To maneuver around the boiler structure, lifting and shifting operations were alternated.
Project Features
We used a set of two cable jacks to install large equipment at a high elevation. As an alternative, the client considered a technology that would include the manufacture of a system of beams and winches for this project. However, that option would have introduced complications involving the regulatory approval and documentation of such lifting mechanisms. Our solution avoided these problems and allowed the drum to be safely installed in a much shorter time.
Main project works
- Development of the Work Execution Plan (WEP)
- Installation of the jack platform; assembly of the strand jacks, including the strands, strand guides, and strand recoilers
- Cable unspooling, cutting, end preparation, and reeving
- Girder installation via overhead crane
- Lowering the strands, slinging the drum
- Moving the drum to the pre-installation position above the supports
- Installation of the drum on the supports. Rigging works during drum alignment for horizontal and vertical alignment and axial rotation
